MPs told of pass threat
• MP Jeremy Corbyn claims to know nothing about plans for the Freedom Pass (Freedom Pass funding shortfall row, October 2). In July, London Councils, representing local authorities, was informed that boroughs had until the end of August to respond to a Labour government idea to cut £52.5million from Freedom Pass funding.
A letter from London Councils was sent to all London MPs, inviting them to contact the Transport Minister. This included a table showing the potential impact on pensioners and disabled.
A letter also went from Hackney’s Labour Mayor to all London Labour MPs. As a result, 26 London MPs, including many Labour MPs – though sadly neither of Islington’s – sent a letter to the Transport Minister objecting to the plans. So it seems Labour’s two MPs in Islington have known full well about the threat to the pensioners’ Freedom Pass since the summer.
