Ella Waldman, who has competed in county athletics races |
End of the line – Running to Morden
EIGHTEEN-year-old Finsbury Park girl Ella Waldman is to run along the length of the Northern Line from High Barnet to Morden via Charing Cross on November 8.
She’ll pass 34 stops on the 24 mile run to raise money so she can carry out voluntary work in the Dominican Republic.
A winner of county athletics tournament, Ella, from Blythwood Road, has represented Hertfordshire and Middlesex in national cross country competitions and English schools athletics tournaments.
She’ll be departing for Santiago in the Dominican Republic for eight months of work on a charity project, which works with street-kids from the surrounding area, aiming to educate and improve their social skills to better their future prospects. “It sounds like it’s going to be a tough project as I’ll be acting as a teacher and a carer in the centre” Ella said. “I’ll be dealing with a range of social problems, a mixture of academic abilities and potentially very challenging teaching environments.
