Lost in post: Has dispute hit card sales?
THE postal dispute is blamed for deterring buyers of charity Christmas cards on sale at a Farringdon church.
Jane Mackey, 21, who runs the Card Aid sale at Holy Redeemer Church in Exmouth Market, believes fewer people are buying cards this year because they fear they will not be delivered on time.
Ms Mackey aims to raise £600 a week but that means selling more than 120 packs of cards at between £3.25 and £7. “The lack of card buyers is very disappointing,” she said. “We’re quite close to Mount Pleasant sorting office so we know all about the postal strike. My appeal is to those who would normally buy charity Christmas cards to continue to do so. You’re not just buying a card to send to someone, you are contributing to charity.”
Charities receive 25 per cent of the sale of cards. Shelter, MS Trust, Fight for Sight, the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture and the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust are among those which benefit.
The card sale runs from 11am to 4pm, Monday to Saturday, until Christmas Eve. |
