Bendy bus space lost
• REMOVAL of bendy buses will not make one iota of difference to traffic flow as the space left will be taken up by cars, vans and lorries (The last of our bendy buses? It cannot come soon enough, November 27). Most cars will be carrying one or two people, so multiply the length of these cars to about the length of these bendy buses, compare the carrying capacity and you have the answer.
I do not mind using double-decker buses but one point goes missing when comparing the two and that is that the older and the frailer members of our society can use any part of the bendy bus, being on one level.
With regard to “non-payers”, an easy answer is to introduce “free” travel at the point of use, something along the lines of the NHS, with a provision for tourists, who would pay a levy of, say, £10 per week on arrival in the country.
