Clean up this bridge
• SHAME on Network Rail for not thinking about Finsbury Park’s development and image (Call for ‘eyesore’ bridge clean-up, November 20).
Just like much of its land throughout the country, which is full of rubbish, this bridge is an eyesore. Network Rail needs to start spending some money on cleaning it up.
It’s dark, grimey and dirty. It’s the one thing that people who visit me remark on (and say looks dreadful), and it’s the one thing that lets Finsbury Park down miserably.
As a major interchange and crossroads, culturally and geographically, in north London, Finsbury Park deserves better from Network Rail.
Unfortunately, as it’s not possible to miss or avoid the bridge, Network Rail needs to invest some time in thinking about the locals who live close to this eyesore and are affected by the impact it has on their lives.
The small percentage of what it would cost to improve the bridge, when compared with the rail passengers who use Finsbury Park overground station, is a clear justification of the viability of cleaning up this bridge. As long as it looks in the state it is today we’ll always remember it as one of the biggest lost opportunities to help improve the image of the great area we call Finsbury Park.
