Big Frank warns
over GP surgeries
HOLBORN and St Pancras MP Frank Dobson has warned treasured
GP surgeries could lose out in government plans to allow supermarkets
to run similar services.
Prime Minister Tony Blair announced the possible change on Monday,
effectively giving his support for walk-in clinics in High Street
stores.
Mr Dobson, who has campaigned against increased private involvement
in the NHS, said the proposal should be fought.
He told the New Journal: If you look at the way the spread
of Tesco has forced local businesses out of businesses, it follows
that you could have a similar thing with GP services. Popular
GPs could be driven out, forced to close. These changes hit
the elderly and disabled thats what happened with
small local shops: they closed when Tesco moved in. |
