Bogey men blow out the Gunners
FA Cup Fourth Round
Bolton 1, Arsenal 0
ARSENAL crashed out of the FA Cup on Saturday night after
fielding a weakened side at bogey team Bolton.
Stelios Giannakopoulos late header decided the tie
the third time Bolton have beaten the Gunners at the Reebok
Stadium in 12 months. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger had only himself
to blame after resting star striker Thierry Henry, claiming
he is more interested in finishing fourth in the Premiership
and qualifying for the Champions League than winning
the Cup.
Robin Van Persie flashed a shot wide and clipped the crossbar
with a header, while new signing Vasiriki Abou Diaby skewed
two shots high and wide.
Sol Campbell might have done better during a corner ball scramble
when he hooked over the bar.
But the Gunners, knocked out of the Carling Cup last Tuesday,
failed to convert their chances and were hit with Stelioss
sucker punch.
Wenger said: It was a match we should have won by three
goals.
We played away from home with a very young side and I
cannot remember Bolton creating one real chance until the moment
they scored. |
