Bakewell pleads for tree to be cut back

BROADCASTER Joan Bakewell says a neighbour’s tree is undermining her Primrose Hill house – and she wants it cut back.
The Radio 4 stalwart has warned Town Hall planning officials that the plane tree caused “major damage” to her Chalcot Square home in 1993, which required “major structural repairs and underpinning”.
The tree, in a garden in Gloucester Avenue which backs onto Ms Bakewell’s home, is protected by a preservation order and the council has refused previous applications to chop it down.
Neighbours have until Tuesday to object to the latest plan, which would see it thinned and cut back.
Neither 73-year-old Ms Bakewell nor her neighbour could be contacted as the New Journal went to press.
