Harriers in cross country championships
SVENJA Abel led Highgate Harriers to a bronze medal
finish at the National Womens Cross Country Championships
on Hampstead Heath on Saturday.
Abel finished 12th out of 444 women in the gruelling 8km race
in a time of 33:52. She was backed by scoring team mates Kate
Jenrick, 28th (35:30); Lindsay Kehoe, 54th (36:45) and Jo Carritt
62nd (36:45).
Highgates men were 11th out of 99 teams in the Senior
mens race over 12km, with the club boasting two runners
in the first six for the first time since 1906.
Ben Noad completed the course in fifth (39:52) swiftly followed
by club mate Keith Cullen in sixth (40:00) from a field of 1,290.
The scoring six were completed by captain Henry Dodwell, 66th
(42:15); Shane Snow, 140th (44:15); Chris Beecham, 162nd (44:52)
and Alan MacPherson, 164th (44:53).
Harrier Saningo Martyn was among the first 50 cross country
juniors in the United Kingdom when he came 45th out of 177 in
the Junior 10km race.
London Heathsides women finished ninth club of 10, led
by Jo King who was first home for the club in 39th (36:02) and
backed by Anna Critchlow, 59th (36:55); Katie Meredith, 86th
(37:54) and Angela Howe, 103rd (38:46).
Norman Mitchell brought home Heathsides senior men in
263rd (46:39) alongside John Flahive, 275th (46:52); Paul Lemmon,
345th (48:10); Callen Hodgskiss, 372nd (48:42); Dave Browne,
385th (48:55) and Danny Jacobson, 499th (50:51) to take 29th
team place overall.
Among the youngsters to compete in various age group races on
the day were Harriers Atak Ding; Lawrence Matthewman; Liam Donnelly;
William Laing; Mat Kavanagh-Talbot; George Laing; Antra Balcluna;
Hannah Ashman; Matilda Bridge; Amy Cotter; and Heathsiders Lottie
Sorbie; Ella Waldman; Robyn Maby; Dulcie Abrahams-Altass; Cleo
Chevalier; Rashmika Torchia; James Avery; Alex Economou; Ryan
Wenzel; Jamie Smith; Diarmuid Chevalier; Iskander Ibrahim; Tom
