ISLINGTON met Camden in a high-octane contest on Monday
that proved a worthy candidate for the latest in our Big Match
Specials.
The two sides meet in the Challenge Cup next week, but this
week it was all about bragging rights in the league.
Going into the game, top of the table Hampstead were unbeaten,
with Hawks undefeated in their last three games.
And it was Hawks who fired the opening salvo; Jermaine Thompson
denied by keeper Luke Case after a dinked pass from George Winter.
But with three key players missing, Hawks were soon on the backfoot
and a defensive mistake saw Ahmed Elkhassasi fire home. Skipper
Daryl Moore stepped up a gear with two goals in seven minutes,
but it took a fine save from Case to deny Winter. Hamps went
into the break 4-0 up though, through Elkhassasi’s second.
Winter was denied by Case again at the restart and sub Tony
Walker sparked a Hawks revival. But when defender James Ward
limped off, Hamps took advantage and an own goal plus late strikes
from Stevan Popovic and Josh Miller finished it.
