triumph as 5,000 turn out for centre's grand opening
THE grand opening of the new Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre
saw 5,000 people turn out to take a peek at the new building
on Saturday.
The centre, part of an £85 million flat, leisure and park
redevelopment in Avenue Road includes two new swimming pools,
squash courts, gyms and sports hall. Around 2,000 people have
already signed up to join the centre after taking tours and
watching sports displays by footballers and gymnasts at the
weekend.
Opening the centre on Saturday, Camden Councils Executive
Member for Culture, Councillor Phil Turner said it had been
a controversial project. But he added: With its completion,
Camden Councils vision of regenerating Swiss Cottage with
high-quality community, cultural and leisure facilities, has
been realised.
The centre also includes 42 affordable and 131 private flats,
community centre, doctors surgery and market area. |
