Greens are a threat
• JOHN Gulliver (The day our Tessa rebelled, March 23)
tells us that online bookies expect a hung council, and that
Labour in Camden “probably fear the worst”. They do
indeed fear the worst – the glossy leaflet which Labour
is now circulating in the highly marginal Highgate ward has
the scare tactic headline “Tories Preparing For Power”.
Meanwhile, the Lib Dem newspaper “Camden Messenger”
has the headline “Tory support ebbs away to Lib Dems”
over a story by “North London elections expert Dr Mark
Pack that “in Camden thousands have turned to the LibDems
to beat Labour. This has had the effect of leaving the Conservative
Party trailing in a poor third place.”
Well he would say that, wouldn’t he? Because if you track
down this “elections expert”, you will find that he
works in the campaigns and elections department at Lib Dem headquarters,
last spotted training Lib Dems at their recent conference in
Harrogate. What these parties don’t want voters to know
is that the Greens are the clear challengers to Labour in Highgate
and Kentish Town and are set to win seats in these wards. The
most likely outcome of this election, therefore, is that the
Greens will be holding the balance of power in Camden, as we
do in the London Assembly.
