Big Match Special
Our weekly spotlight on one of the
leagues big games
Under-12 B
Harbour 1,
Kentish Utd Elite 1
THE points and Big Match Special honours were shared by these
two mid-table rivals on Friday night in an end-to-end encounter
which could have yielded a hatful of goals.
Elites Callum French almost bagged one within moments
of the start after his wind-assisted shot nearly caught out
Harbour keeper Tommy Maggs.
But Maggs, brother of England Womens international Ellen,
was on top form and almost set up two himself with long goal
kicks, but Sam Steinert denied Billy McGee the first and keeper
Remi Rifat was on hand to keep out the second.
Harbours Anthony Cox broke the deadlock, riding three
tackles to slot home after a fine pass from the excellent Alfie
Townsend.
Nathan Devereux tested Maggs moments later, while Rifat kept
out Townsend at the other end.
But Devereux was not to be denied and levelled with a well-taken
shot.
Defender and man-of-the-match Elliott Kaul-Jones almost set
McGee up with a fine run out of defence but Rifat got a hand
to it. His opposite number kept out Teddy Bartram at the re-start
and Kaul-Jones pulled out all the stops to stop the lively Raymond
Vangiladios determined run on goal.
But neither side could add to their tally and though Harbours
influential substitute Daniel Monksfield almost set up Cox for
the winner, his shot flew agonisingly wide of the post.
Man of the Match
ELLIOTT KAUL-JONES
Elliott was outstanding at the heart of Harbours defence,
quashing the runs of Elites nippy wingers and distributing
the ball with intelligence. |
