strike lifts Cup
London FA Sunday
Junior Cup Final
Red Star Camden 1
Reddot 0
A SOLITARY strike from top scorer Junior Jervier ensured that
Red Star Camden lifted the cup at the end of a derby with Kentish
Town based Reddot A at Wingate and Finchley FC.
The Musical Associations League champions ended the challenge
of the Camden Sunday League leaders when Jervier raced onto
a high through ball from Kevin Flynn and headed past Reddots
James Self six minutes before fulltime.
Reddot created the majority of chances in a fiercely competitive
encounter, Tony Dowsett almost lobbing them ahead in the first
half but his cross shot floated just wide of the far post.
In the second half, Red Stars Jamie Walker hooked the
ball into the path of Ossie Jervier but James Ricketts cleared
the danger.
Junior Jervier was denied by Reddots defensive duo of
Mickey Dowsett and John Donovan and Self was alert to block
a fierce drive from Matt OBrien.
Reddot then grasped control with Stevie Nicolaou teeing up Steven
Bruce, who shot against a defender, and brother Alexie, who
was denied by keeper Alan Bedwell before he could pull the trigger.
Red Star were under pressure until Flynn and Jervier combined
to give them the lead.
Flynn almost extended it in a one-on-one with Self but the keeper
saved.
Reddot came close to an equaliser when Robin Harrisons
effort was cleared off the line and Selfs powerful header
from the resulting corner was tipped away one-handed by his
opposite number.
But Red Star held on to make up for losing in the semi-finals
last season. |
