Ace Peter's
sign-off record aim
COMMONWEALTH squash champion Peter Nicol is preparing for
a record breaking eleventh and final appearance at the Super
Series final that starts on May 8.
The South Hampstead-based player, who is retiring this year,
will break the record for appearances in the Super Series when
he steps on court in Broadgate Arena in the City.
He told the New Journal: I cant believe its
the 11th time, it doesnt seem that long ago that I was
playing my first one in Hatfield.
As a three-time winner of the competition, which features the
top eight points scorers from the Professional Squash Association
tour, Nicol knows that victory will equal the record of final
wins held by Pakistan legend Jansher Kahn.
He said: Id love to equal his record in this event
because theres no other record of his that I can equal.
Gold in the mens singles and doubles at the Commonwealth
games was a great start to the year and 33-year-old Nicol feels
that his preparations are going well.
He added: I got back from Australia on April 12 and then
went to South Africa to play some exhibition matches, so Ive
played lots of squash and feel good. |
