Lib Dems are not a waste
• Former Labour Camden Councillor, Hilary Lowe (Letters, Jan 19) has obviously been away from local politics too long.
She once again repeats the old Labour spin story that Lib-Dem-run Islington plans to reduce its domestic waste collections.
She patently doesn’t understand the system of scrutiny. It was a suggestion at an Islington scrutiny panel, chaired in fact by a Labour councillor, that gave rise to this story. It was not taken up and the Lib Dem administration in Islington are not planning to move to a once a fortnight waste collection.
However, an idea to reduce Camden’s domestic waste collections, has in fact been mooted in a recent survey of Camden Talks members!
I believe Hilary is hoping to stand as a Labour candidate for Camden Council at May’s local elections after a gap of many years.
I suggest she will have to brush up on her knowledge and come to terms with the new system of local government and a new political climate should she be successful in her ambitions.
