In the very thick of central London, Holborn and Covent Garden are an irresistible pull for visitors from across the globe. Indeed, the area is rich in history, and was thriving in Roman times. It is a long-established seat of the legal profession, Gray’s Inn and Lincoln’s Inn Fields being here, and also Britain’s historic college of adult education, Gresham College.
Covent Garden took its name from the market garden of the Convent of St. Peter, which formerly supplied fruit and vegetables to much of London before it relocated to Vauxhall. Now tourists and Londoners alike flock here for shopping at the famous bustling Piazza, eclectic boutiques around Neal Street, and street entertainment. In the evenings visitors are lured by the dazzling multitude of top theatres, bars, clubs and restaurants.
