Drawing over 10 million visitors a year, Camden Town is one of London’s most colourful, and cosmopolitan quarters. Developed by the first Earl Camden, the opening of the Regent’s Canal in 1816 led to its rapid burgeoning. It is now crammed with shops, markets and entertainment venues and characterised by a distinctly bohemian air. The perfect antidote to its throbbing atmosphere is to be found in the neighbouring calm streets of Primrose Hill. A forested hunting area until it was cleared during Elizabeth the First’s time, fine panoramic views of London can be enjoyed from the hilltop. Popular with actors, designers and models, there are many chic restaurants, watering holes and boutiques to be found here.
