Alternative take on God

COMEDY : I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUNDAY

Etcetara Theatre

LAPSED Anglican Sunday choral singer James Sherwood last performed the themed gig I Know What You Did Last Sunday in 2006 at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
This time it was for enthusiastic spectators at the cosy Etcetera Theatre.
Anglican vicar’s son Sherwood, who only enters a church if he’s paid, thinks Christian requirements of fear, love and praise for God is farcical, not because his neighbour’s ox is irresistible, he insists, but simply because if you want to be worshipped, “you are a cock”.
Sherwood candidly, yet without malice, highlights various sections of biblical prose that lend themselves to ridicule.
His priestly characters are vividly portrayed. One as an insipid sadistic gangster, another a phoney sycophant, their institution of Anglicanism offset by low-grade family fundraisers featuring tombolas and raffles.
