In the wings
“IT is excellent to have a giant’s strength; but it is tyrannous to use it like a giant.” Shakespeare’s phrase was used to introduce the Tory party’s anti-union policies of the early 1970s. The Tower Theatre Company use them more appropriately in a production of Measure for Measure at Theatro Technis. Justice and mercy are the orders of the day, but what about the quality of mercy. The top brass concept of mercy is every bit as hypocritical as the tyranny it is intended to soften. The opening night on May 15 will be a gala performance, celebrating 75 years of the Tower Theatre Company and 25 years of Theatro Technis.
A PLAY by Charles Dickens, which has not been performed for more than 100 years, opens at the King’s Head this month. Written in 1866, No Thoroughfare is a gripping murder mystery based on Charles Dickens’s short story of the same name. The production is part of the King’s Head excellent forgotten classic series. The show is one day only from June 2.
