IT’S true, jazz doesn’t often make it onto this page, but in an effort to be more eclectic this week, not only do I have legend Candi Staton on the page, but I’m throwing in a bit of ‘serious’ music.
After a 10-year sabbatical, a series of jazz performances are being held at the Lund Theatre at University College School in Hampstead. According to promoter Oliver Rosenblatt, a former pupil there, the fixture was once “one of the top jazz venues and series in London”. It all kicks off in just over a month (Thursday October 5) with trumpeting Hampstead youngster and Steeles pub show-stopper Henry Armburg Jennings. In persuasive mode, Mr Rosenblatt adds: “Concert goers can expect to hear some top class Jazz and it saves the hassle of having to go into central London – not to mention the significant price difference!” Still not excited? You should be.
