Devil does the dirty with the Welsh gross-out boys
DIRTY SANCHEZ - THE MOVIE
Directed by Jim Hickey
Certificate 18
THIS is not a film which will appeal to huge swathes of the cinema-going public. The reason is simple. It is based on four men scooting round the world to do a variety of dangerous, grotesque and ridiculous stunts.
Dirty Sanchez are the Welsh answer to the Jackass Boys, the group of gross-out stunt masters who made their names doing foul things on MTV.
The type of humour which runs through this film is epitomised by the casting of Howard Marks as the devil.
The screen prescence of the man who made his name as Wales’s biggest dope dealer is ever so slightly tongue-in-cheek. His tone attempts to tell the audience that he is in on the joke.
As the Devil, he has heard of the Dirty Sanchez crew and their unpleasant antics and decides he wants to meet them. He wants them on his side.
It is an average day for the team Dainton, Joycey, Pancho and Pritchard.
They are attempting to jump a car over a caravan with Pancho asleep inside (Pancho sleeps a lot. Cue hysterical laughter). But the devil steps in and all four are consumed by a fireball.
But once in Hell, the devil sets them a challenge. The prize is eternal life but the price for failure is a hot and uncomfortable experience that will last for ever.
They are sent around the world to commit one of the seven deadly sins in a number of different locations.
This includes such crazy stunts as seeing how much pain Pritchard can handle by being shot by paintballs in Moscow and having lust filled adventures in Thailand – cue ladyboy jokes.
You can imagine this was a great movie to pitch and even more fun to make.
The Sanchez boys pour all the humour they can in to it. And the result is a right laugh – but the humour is so low this will not be appreciated by 98 per cent of the film going public.
To promote the film, the Dirty Sanchez team turned up at the World’s End in Camden Town, where, they announced, they were going to give each other ‘alcholic eneamas’ using an old piece of tubing and eight cans of Stella Artois. Such antics are what you can expect. |
