The Queen
HELEN MIRREN is marvellous as the Queen, while a clever script and a well-paced narrative also means this is not a bad film. But there are two problems. Michael Sheen as the newly-elected Prime Minister Tony Blair grates as much as the real one after a while, and although this would make a good two-part TV drama, the fidgets soon set in.
The relationship between Blair and the Queen in the aftermath of the death of Princess Diana is really not that interesting. It lacks the historical gravitas of such films as The Madness of King George, and is certainly not as fun in terms of photography to watch. |
