Chamber venue for Archway
A NEW chamber music venue officially opens in Archway this weekend, serving also as a café and gallery.
The Red Hedgehog, in Archway Road, begins its premiere autumn season on Saturday with father-and-son team Raymond and Simon Fischer, playing three violin sonatas by Brahms.
Beethoven’s entire series of violin sonatas will be performed in chronological order in three concerts by violinist Paul Barritt and pianist James Lisney from Monday evening.
As for the venue itself, it takes its name from Brahms’s favourite tavern in Vienna where figures such as Schubert, Schumann and Mendelssohn would decamp to unwind.
And the managers are trying to encourage audiences to take eco-friendly routes to the venue.
Those who walk, take the tube or bus or cycle there will get a discount.
