London’s inaugural sax festival gets underway
THIS week sees the start of London’s inaugural saxophone festival featuring a whole series of concerts in venues across central London with some of the world’s best exponents of the instrument offering classical, jazz and cross-over music.
The first concert is in the splendour of St James’s Piccadilly and sees Christian Forshaw presenting music from his latest CD Sanctuary, which reached number one in the Amazon Classical Music Chart, on Thursday evening. Later that same night the excellent jazz group, the Stan Sulzmann Ensemble performs at Pizza Express in Dean Street, one of London’s most enjoyable Soho jazz venues.
Next week sees a concert featuring works by Philip Glass, Michael Nyman and Mathew King and Britain’s saxophone choir performs next Saturday at St John’s Smith Square.
