The Review - grooves with CHARLOTTE CHAMBERS

Demo of the Week
THE HEIGHTS

WELSH fourpiece The Heights would rattle your teeth if you stood too close during a set. If you haven’t gone to the dentist recently anyway.
With solid chunks of tunes that tear through you and frontman Owain Ginsberg delivering lines with proper rock ’n’ roll huskiness, you’ll be lucky to leave with your voice after their gig at the Old Blue Last on Monday October 16.
Having supported the likes of Editors, The Charlatans and Camden favourites The Crimea in just the last few months, The Heights are definitely working their way on to bigger and better things.
The press people tell us they should remind you of Led Zep or even the Strokes with Lemmy (Ace of Spades) singing.
But with heavy basslines and rollicking guitar licks, who cares who they sound like – they’re the kind of band I want to watch.
Exciting, pacey and daredevil, I challenge anyone who sees them not to chuck beer over themselves, willingly or otherwise.
One listen to Jamaica Beer Eyes on their Bad News EP, released November 27 on Best Before Records – listen online at www.myspace.com/theheightsuk – and you’ll be queueing up for the next glass.

• If you want your demo reviewed, please send it in to Grooves, 40 Camden Road, London NW1 9DR.
