School for Scoundrels
NEVER before has the British education system produced such high-jinks. You can forget St Trinian’s – this classic British comedy gets top marks.

School For Scoundrels, produced in 1960, stars four members of the cream of Britain’s 1950s comedy film circuit, Terry Thomas, Ian Carmichael, Alastair Sim and John Le Mesurier.
We follow the adventures of poor Henry Palfrey (Carmichael), who wants to win the heart of lovely April (Janette Scott). But he is up against the teeth-glinting cad Raymond Delauney (Terry Thomas) and the odds don’t look good.
Until, that is, he signs up at the School For Lifemanship – an institute where he learns how get the better of superior sportsmen at any game of their choosing, how to turn a profit in the most unlikely of circumstances, and of course the most important trick of all – how to make yourself irresistible to the opposite sex.
Director Robert Haumer was behind the marvellous Kind Hearts and Coronets, and School For Scoundrels is an endearing and enduring classic which is as funny today as it was when it became a hit nearly 50 years ago.
