DVD of the Week
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN'S CHEST
£22.99. Buena Vista Home Entertainment
The second instalment of the Johnny Depp vehicle hits the small screens this week – and although it singularly fails to live up to the first outing, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest has a few saving graces.
It was fun enough on the big screen because it is gorgeously shot, but it is also too long and ruined by an intolerably stretched story line and some absolutely terrible acting by Keira Knightley – possibly the worst actress on the big screen today.
But it is visually superb and Johnny Depp, as ever, prances his way across the screen with aplomb, while a heavily made-up Bill Nighy is also great as Davy Jones.
However, the ending will leave you angry as it is completely inconclusive, and so complicated that you will have forgotten most of it by the time part three comes out. |
