Flushed Away
Another charming offering by Aardman Animation tells the story of Roddy the posh rodent and his quest to return home.
Roddy lives in salubrious surroundings in a well-heeled home which looks suspiciously like Notting Hill. But it all goes wrong when ratty Sid comes out of a drain and decides he quite likes Roddy’s pampered existence – but to make the most of it he has to get rid of the present incumbent.
Poor Roddy gets flushed down the loo and finds himself in a hidden underground world called Ratropolis.
Here he befriends Rita who spends her time working like a waterborne rag-and-bone man. He enlists her help to get him out of the sewers, while having to fight the evil drain ruler Toad.
Voiced by the likes of Kate Winslet and Ian McKellen, it is full of charming characters and, as you would expect from anything by the Aardman team, it is a glorious piece of work to look at – although the film has been made with CGI rather than Aardman’s trade mark stop motion animation.
Shortbus
A New York rom-com with a difference – this is no Sarah Jessica Parker--style heart string plucking tale of boy-meets-girl that has an all ends well message.
Instead it is a graphic sex comedy about a gang of disparate people all seeking to fulfil their physical desires – and coming a cropper while doing so.
Shortbus is the underground club the chief protagonists attend to feast on each other. |
