Delightful sax
HAVING just released his latest album Our Delight, tenor saxophonist Scott Hamilton is currently on tour presenting his work, and he is coming to Pizza Express Dean Street for the first week of 2007.
Breaking into the public eye in New York in the early 1980s, Hamilton’s sax playing, a blend of blues-infused swing and bebop, follows in the tradition of Zoot Simms and Coleman Hawkins.
Perhaps his crowning achievement thus far is his 1994 release Organic Duke, an interpretation of classics, particularly Duke Ellington, which allowed Hamilton to develop his own distinctive sound.
Although he had a quiet end to the 1990s, Hamilton has since moved to London and formed his own quartet featuring John Pearce on piano, bassist Dave Green and percussionist Stewe Brown.
The quartet is at the Soho venue until January 7. |
