Grooves | Kevin Shields | My Bloody Valentine | The Roundhouse
IT'S the kind of thing that can happen to anyone.
You meet someone really famous, but have no idea who they are.
When I first started out a few years ago, I met Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine fame and was none the wiser.
I interviewed him about some row over a late licence for a new bar in Hampstead (where he lives), and he told me he was in a band.
“Oh, any I may have heard of?” I asked chirpily. “Nah, don’t think so,” came the notoriously publicity shy frontman’s reply.
If only I’d pushed a bit further, and given some thought to the fact that he resides in one of London’s most exclusive postcodes, I would have realised he was obviously a successful musician.
Later a music magazine picked up what I’d missed, laughing about the fact that a noisy old musician was complaining about noise.
Anyway, the grand old men of the “shoegazing” era are back, putting on what are bound to be riveting shows at the Roundhouse.
Expect little movement on stage but a lot of noise.
