Bloodclot! are set for a live return in December
Bloodclot! pumped up, but it’s no place for vain
REVEW: BLOOCLOT Camden Underworld
I CAN’T imagine too many readers are regular devotees of the New York hardcore and punk scene so here is a brief synopsis – it’s hard, heavy, fast and, above all, honest.
Forget floppy fringes, bullet belts and drainpipe jeans, this is about passion, not fashion. That much is clear when support act Skarhead take to the stage. Reformed after a lengthy hiatus, the Big Apple mob take no prisoners with their visceral brand of punishing hardcore, delivered in typically uncompromising fashion by blabbermouth frontman, Danny Diablo.
Culling most of their material from their seminal Kings At Crime full-length, Diablo and co play with their tongues firmly in cheeks as old favourites Dogs Of War and TCOB go down a storm.
But the mostly all-male crowd are only here to see one band, or arguably one man. John Joseph, the dynamic former microphone terrorist with legendary New York bruisers the Cro-Mags, returned with his new collective, which includes members of other influential outfits such as Pro Pain, Merauder and Downset.
And unlike some of his previous offerings formed after his Cro-Mags hey-day, Bloodclot! are a breath of fresh air.
They blaze through tracks from debut album, Burn, Babylon, Burn and all are packed with catchy, groove-laden hooks and Joseph’s signature hollering.
Several Bad Brains and Cro-Mags covers later the band stride off with fans pleading for more.
