REVIEW: BOMBAY BICYCLE CLUB
Barfly
BOMBAY Bicycle Club seem an obvious choice of headliner for the current Levi’s Ones to Watch tour, fitting in nicely with previous acts – Foals, The Kooks and Metronomy.
From their beginnings as a school assembly band to air play on XFM and Radio 1 and festival appearances, it’s all happened so quick.
This was not reflected in the band’s performance – every song is tight, and the crowd was a mixture of 40-year-old A&R men and 14-year-old fans.
They opened with single Evening/ Morning, released on London indie label Young & Lost Club, while new songs Lamplight and Always Like This evoke Talking Heads, and hint at a funkier direction. Crowd favourite Sixteen comes last,
and with it a stage invasion.
A band that have already been labelled as “impossibly talented” by The Fly can only improve, and this performance certainly supports this. Ben White
