Grooves
I BUMPED into Radio 1 DJ Nihal outside the Nitin Sawhney gig at the BBC Electric Proms on Friday.
He told me he’d fallen foul of the early scheduling, thinking the show started at 9pm so it was all over by the time he arrived.
He wasn’t the only one to miss out. I caught up with John McClure of Reverend and the Makers after the Oasis gig. He’d rushed over after guesting on Lowkey’s set at the Barfly but, although he was on the guest list, he couldn’t get in.
I also met Radio 1 breakfast DJ Chris Moyles. He said he hoped the Proms never moves from Camden because he only lives up the road.
• I’ve had an appeal from punk pop DJs Ruth and Ed who strayed across the border from Camden to Westminster with their fun Desdemona Plays Pop DJ nights and now miss the homeland. I’ve promised to help find them a new home in their favourite borough. Any interested promoters/ landlords out there drop me an email.
• I’ve given Record of the Week a holiday this week and next as we give space to the Proms and the Union Chapel’s upcoming Mencap Little Noise Sessions. But keep sending in your records.
