• Lakeview Terrace is a rather run of the mill, neighbourly spat tale starring Samuel L Jackson as a sinister cop who patrols his neighbourhood after lights out to make sure every one is sticking to his own moral code of behaviour. When a mixed race couple move in next door, he takes a dislike to them...with unpleasant results. The plot is obvious and Jackson is so much better than this.
• You have to admire Jason Statham for his ability to find work despite tawdry attempt after tawdry attempt to act. In Transporter Three, he takes up his usual role as muscley tough guy job punching people into the air – pretty much as he did in Transporter One and Two, in fact. This time he has to accompany a politician’s daughter from Marseilles to Ukraine at top speed in flash cars while trying to fight off various kidnappers, and her attempts to sleep with him. It’s a hard old world out there for movie hardmen, isn’t it?.
• THE Secret Life of Bees tells the story of a little girl who finds solace in bee-keeping after the death of her mother. Gooey, honey-coated stuff.
