Mellow jazz to soothe the soul|
REVIEW: MATTHEW HALSALL Proud Galleries
MANCHESTER-based trumpeter, composer, and DJ Matthew Halsall took to the stage with his excellent ensemble at the Proud Galleries on Monday night. Halsall played a 45-minute set featuring songs from his debut album, Sending My Love, as well as tracks from his forthcoming album, set to be released next year.
The ensemble mixed elements of classic and contemporary jazz to create a soothingly mellow and electric sound. Jarring chords eased into soulful melody, keeping the audience on their toes.
The second half of the night saw guest musicians take the stage for a jamming session.
Expect to see more from Halsall in 2009. JOANNA BEDFORD
