The Con is on – underground jazz
PREVIEW - CON FEST 2009 The Constitution Pub
CONFEST, a new three-day jazz festival, is being held this weekend in the Con Cellar Bar of The Constitution on St Pancras Way by the canal.
The line-up includes the Hannes Riepler Quartet; “Root 70” with Matt Penman and Jochen Ruckert; Will Vinson Trio plus guest Jason Palmer; and Round Trip featuring Richard Turner.
Trumpet player Richard Turner and Wendy Clare, the pub’s landlady, started Jazz at the Con Cellar Bar in October 2006 to make jazz accessible by well-worn method of making music in pubs.
“The intimate underground venue, with naturally good acoustics, provides a perfect setting for jazz/improvised/ acoustic music,” says Richard Turner.
• Con Fest 2009 is at The Con Cellar Bar at the Constitution Pub, 42 St Pancras Way, NW1, April 25-27. 8.30pm. £5-£10. 07830 255 958
