Grooves
BOTH Carl Barat and Pete Doherty are on the Camden Rocks bill and considering their recent effort at the Rhythm Factory the other week, my money’s on another impromptu Libertines reunion.
The only way to be sure is to be there.
I’ve also heard EMF are no longer playing – could they have fallen out?
I’m hearing there are last-minute talks with a couple of other acts so watch out for possible secret additions.
• The Emirates Stadium will be brimming with saccharine-tinged pop next Sunday (June 7) when the Capital FM Summertime Ball rides into town.
It’ll be a historic moment for fans of boy band Blue who will reform live on stage. Have their old hits stood the test of time? Were they ever current? And will their creaky joints manage an attempt to update their outfit with slick moves and modern beats?
Also on the bill are Lionel Ritchie, squeaky Akon, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, X-Factor’s Leona Lewis and JLS, Daniel Merriweather and Mark Ronson, The Saturdays, Calvin Harris, Shontelle, Alesha Dixon, Enrique Iglesias, Ciara and James Morrison. Be prepared for lots of teenage screaming.
• If you’re looking for a guilt-free night out I’d wander down to The Buffallo Bar in Upper Street on Sunday (May 31).
Bands Against Knife Crime, a collection of artists who want to take a stand against violence and have set up a summer programme aimed at local youth groups, will host a night of good music in aid of a great cause. On the bill are Karova, Danny Valentine and the Meditations and The Pretty Suspects with DJ sets from Broccoli Music. Look out for more events over the summer.
