PREVIEW -
THE MANIC STREET PREACHERS Camden Roundhouse
THE magnificent militant Manics: the politicised rage, the confrontation, the women’s clothing.
Irreverent and subversive – they were the first big western act to play at Havana’s Karl Marx Theatre – James, Nicky and Sean are a band like few others, splicing acutely observed social commentaries with a Clash-inflected punk ethic and androgynous glam.
The South Wales rockers’ 09 incarnation, has reprised their capacity to shock.
Invoking the lyrics of Richey Edwards, they have returned to their roots. Radio-friendly hits such as Design For Life may have won them new fans, but their most sublime moments have been the emotive epics La Tristesse Durera and Motorcycle Emptiness. These are the songs that will move the Roundhouse over the next three nights. ALLAN LEDWARD
