Hampstead Theatre - celebrating its 50th anniversary with a production of 'Us'
Us and those around us
PREVIEW: US
Hampstead Theatre
HAMPSTEAD Theatre celebrates its 50th Anniversary this week with the funny and uplifting ‘Us’ by award-winning writer Jane Bodie.
We’re all connected 24/7 with mobiles and internet, but are we really connected to those around us? Is it only when technology is taken away that we actually start communicating with others? ‘Us’ really is for everyone, appealing to all ages. You’ll get to know the characters instantly, seeing bits of your friends and relatives in them all. You’ll laugh at the razor-sharp portrayals and be touched uplifted as their stories weave cleverly together in a Raymond Carver-esque fashion.
The movement and pace of the play will engage you from start to finish. The bold set and seating design really makes the audience feel part of the story, of the community on stage.
It’s unique to see a show that is such a successful mix of professional and amateur artists – and even more unique to see it work in a way that engages such a diverse audience.
If more theatre were like this, more people would go to the theatre. Do not miss this.
Tickets are still available for performances on Thursday 30th at 4pm and 7pm and Friday 31st at 7pm.
Your comments:
MY god, I absolutely loved this play. The characters are amazing, and the genius plot weaves between them in a kind of Short Cuts kind of way. It was weird at first, sitting "inside" the play as the action and dialogue goes on all around you, but very quickly you feel like you enjoy observing the community from within. I have never experienced anything like it. The innovative set, lighting and audio perfectly complement the story. And above all, it had me laughing from start to finish. Congrats to all the cast, writer and crew for a real thrill, big thanks. S. Lowes
