Back to Black: Dan returns to London roots
PREVIEW: DAN BLACK/ROCK THE BOAT Proud Camden
DAN Black is now huge – but still thin. He may be based in Paris, but he hasn’t forgotten his London roots. So it’s good to hear the man himself will be making a special appearance at Be at Proud Camden on Saturday. Black became an overnight sensation with his reworking of Notorious BIG’s Hypnotize but then he got in a bit of trouble with the deceased rapper’s people and had to change the words for his new album.
Also on the bill are Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and Run Toto Run, as well as 1950s swing, rock ’n’ roll and Northern Soul from DJ Bioux and friends.
There’s so much happening in Proud these days that it’s hard to choose what to highlight next. But this next one’s for a good cause. Rock the Boat, in aid of Mencap, returns to Proud on September 9 with house DJ Seb Fontaine and six-piece dance-based pop band 1st Chancers. They will be joined by Loose Cannons who mix ska, funk and jazz.
• Dan Black is at Proud on Saturday (August 15), 8pm-2.30am, £10.
Rock the Boat is on Wednesday September 9, 7.30pm-1.30am £5.
