Lexington’s lively start
WOLFMOTHER, Fanfarlo, Juliette Lewis , Natalie Imbruglia – The Lexington’s been open for less than a year but it’s already built up a reputation for attracting massive names (and the odd ex-Neighbours star). But this is why it’s become a favourite for genuine aficionados of the live music scene. The Pentonville Road venue’s limited capacity of just 200 upstairs where the bands play (450 overall) means you know you’re going to be close to the acts no matter where you stand.
There’s also the Rough Trade Records pop quiz every Monday night.
Then there’s White Light every Friday, with live bands from 8pm to 11pm. The attraction here comes from the DJs’ pre-Back to the Future era limit. They only play tracks from 1984 and before – so don’t expect any nu-rave or post-modern electronica from the noughties.
The line-up tomorrow (Friday) includes Death Trip Takeover, LaLa Vasquez, Bitches and Rodeo Massacre. And this time it’s free entry.
If a touch of the Wild West is more your thing then Nashville-on-Thames club with Sheriff Marshal Lawman, DJ Bonanza take over on Saturday afternoon (2pm-8pm, August 22) with their honky-tonk club. Expect to hear the likes of Hank Williams (I, II and III), Johnny Cash, Steve Earle, Dolly Parton, Dave Dudley and Wayne Hancock.
And on Tuesday (August 25) Brighton indie popsters The Pipettes have teamed up with pop-soul six-piece Lucky Soul for a brand-new club night – Technicolour at The Lexington. It’s a celebration of all things pop with a selection of special guest DJs and the bands’ personal live favourites, including ukulele strummer Allo, Darlin’ in support.
