Cafe take Michael from the O2
PREVIEW: MICHAEL JACKSON TRIBUTE JAZZ CAFE
CONCERT giants the 02 failed miserably to scramble together a fitting tribute to King of Pop Michael Jackson. But now Camden’s Jazz Café has stepped into the breach with plans for a Bank Holiday weekend of celebrations of Jackson’s life, beginning on what would have been his 51st birthday. Remember house diva Kym Mazelle? The former Soul II Soul member used to live on the same street as the Jackson family in Gary, Indiana. She will be heading a line-up of soul singers – hosted by Eric Robertson – and ready to belt out Jackson’s greatest hits, alongside Little Brother rapper Phonte Coleman, and soul singers Chris Ballin, Donna Gardier and Lennox Cameron. DJs will spin some of Michael’s best tunes throughout the night, his videos will be shown on the big screen and those with the fanciest footwork can compete in a Moonwalking contest.
* August 29 and 30. Doors 7pm, tickets £20. 0844 2091805
