MUSIC-goers are spoilt for choice next week. On Saturday evening, the Bach Players are presenting a thrilling programme of Bach cantatas at St John’s Church in Downshire Hill, Hampstead, and Wolfgang Holzmair will be singing Schubert’s “Winterreise” at the Wigmore Hall.
On Sunday evening, there are two fundraisers. Clarinettist Ian Herbert and the Cristofori Ensemble will be playing at Rosslyn Hill Chapel to raise funds for the Indonesian Appeal.
Down Rosslyn Hill at St Stephens, on the junction with Pond Street, Chinese prodigy Qian Wu will play the Brahms violin concerto with the North London Philharmonia to raise funds for the church’s refurbishment fund.
Also on Sunday evening, there’s an interesting recital of oboe, violin, cello and piano music at Burgh House, Hampstead.
If you’re in the West End on Tuesday, the Diversity Choir of gay and lesbian singers are giving a concert at St Martin-in-the-Fields with the Brandenburg Sinfonia to mark World Aids Day.
On Wednesday, Verdi’s Otello will get a concert performance under the baton of Sir Colin Davis at the Barbican Centre.
For jazz fans, there’s a chance to assess the talents of young trumpeter Damon Brown at the Sunday afternoon session at Princes of Wales, Primrose Hill.
On Monday, the Gemini Band will be playing new Jim Hart compositions widely hailed as the new sound of British jazz.
Tuesday evening will provide a nostalgia trip for fans Count Basie, Charlie Mingus and Stan Kenton when the Dan Spanner Big Band plays at the Cross Kings, King’s Cross.
