Camden-based MPHO
Coming up/review
• IT'S been a crazy year for Camden-based singer MPHO, having toured with Mr Hudson, performed with Tinchy Stryder at the Mobo awards and helped launch the Camden Crawl.
Now she’s headlining NME Calling’s Sunday Social at The Old Queens Head, Essex Road, on Sunday.
Her single Box ‘n Locks was our record of the week a couple of months back and she continues on her quest not to be pigeon-holed this weekend, carving a niche in UK music which straddles both mainstream pop, urban and leftfield indie.
MPHO performs live alongside Hoodlums, The Moulettes, Them:Youth and Spindle & Wit and it’s all free, from 4pm-midnight.
• FORMER indie scenesters Th’ Faith Healers were one of the major components of the 90s “Camden Lurch” crowd.
Along with Silverfish and Sun Carriage, they were regular players at the Dublin Castle and The Falcon and other indie hangouts. So here they come latching on to one of the hottest indie hangouts of the noughties – The Lexington.
Look out for singer Roxanne’s trademark flailing hair, whirling limbs and permanent stage invasions on December 2. With support from big noise duo Die Munch Machine and apocalyptic art/noise-rock foursome The Frake.
