• AFTER 33 years away from the stage, Yusuf Islam, formerly known to the world as the 60s pop legend Cat Stevens, is set to perform in London for the final stop on his four-city tour.
Never one to shy away from the experimental, the prominent convert to Islam began his tour with a controversial addition to his setlist. To the horror of his more traditional folk-hungry fans, he halted his Dublin gig for a 40-minute preview of his new musical Moonshine – to a chorus of angry booing.
Despite comparing his fans’ fury to that of Dylan’s when he went electric, Yusuf is undeterred and continues his tour at the Royal Albert hall on December 8. Expect classic hits such as Wild World and The First Cut is the Deepest, alongside songs from his 2009 album Roadsinger. Siobhan Leddy
• IT'S difficult to imagine hip-hop phenomenon Jurassic 5 without immediately thinking of the thundering baritone tremors of Chali 2na. After releasing his much-anticipated solo album Fish Outta Water, Mr 2na is making an appearance on this side of the pond at our very own Cargo on December 2. It seemed that Chali was becoming too big a fish for the Jurassic 5 pond, and has recently moved away from the old-school beats of J5’s past. This departure in style means it’s uncertain how much old material he’ll play, but with the line-up also including Teef and Lazy Habits, this is sure to be a danceable, lyrical feast.
