Plans for Soho revamp are given the go-ahead|
PLANNING chiefs have approved a detailed brief mapping out the future regeneration of a residential area in Soho.
The plans for Berwick Street, Peter Street, Broadwick Street and Ingestre Place include 30 per cent affordable housing.
The site led to a major row three years ago after City Hall wasted nearly £600,000 on consultants, architects and designers in botched plans that were eventually thrown out by Westminster Council.
The proposals included an underground car park and a development on the market place.
The revised scheme for Berwick Street includes:
n Provision for the creation of a “green roof” on Kemp House and measures to tackle anti-social behaviour.
n The possibility of bringing Trenchard House back into use as a facility for key workers.
n Possible expansion of Westminster Kingsway College.
The planning brief assures no “amusement arcades and centres, sex-related uses and mini-cab offices” will be permitted.
