Police issue appeal for street CCTV volunteers
THE Metropolitan police wants volunteers to help them watch the streets.
The programme will help staff the underground CCTV complex watching over Westminster residents from beneath the Trocadero.
Westminster has more than 300 CCTV cameras that are controlled 24 hours from the ‘Piccadilly Pavilion’.
Volunteers offering to join the programme will receive expenses and CCTV training.
A Met spokesman said: “This is an extraordinary opportunity to make a real difference to your local area, with around one million people passing through the vicinity every day. “This will give volunteers an insight into the world of policing.”
To volunteer in Westminster with the Metropolitan Police call 020 7321 9164.
