Tories’ green man shows how much he digs environment
GREEN-FINGERED David Cameron got his hands dirty at the award-winning Queen’s Park Gardens on Saturday.
The Leader of the Opposition planted a tree in the Green Flag-nominated park as he visited a previously neglected area that has been developed by the Friends of Queen’s Park Gardens group at the corner of Endbrook Street with Third Street.
Mr Cameron spent two hours helping to plant hazel, dogwood, willows, pyracantha and cotoneasta.
The project is scheduled for completion in April 2008.
Queen’s Park Gardens is one of four existing open spaces in Westminster that have attained the prestigious Green Flag status.
The scheme is run by the Civic Trust and is intended to be the benchmark against which the standard of public parks and green spaces can be measured.
It also recognises the diversity and value of green space to the local community.
