West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 20 April 2007
Joyless nights at Peabody
• ANOTHER holiday, yet another week of teenage mayhem. Is there no end to these anti-social visitations?
We on the Peabody Estate have suffered these problems for too long with no relief in sight, yet we are met with no response from our landlord nor the police, who seem either powerless or to lack the commitment necessary to deal with this nuisance.
Who is to blame? The Government, the parents, the perpetrators? Or are we all in one form or another responsible for this never-ending problem?
Teenagers, and some children as young as 9 or 10 years old, gather late at night around the estate itself or within the blocks.
One evening, when I had only been home a few minutes, someone flew past my window at speed on a motor scooter. This joy-riding – using nearby estates as a racetrack – has persisted for years with no respite or solution, sometimes into the early hours.
I often wonder what these individuals do with themselves during daylight – lie in bed perhaps? Do they care about others that they annoy? It would appear not. Name and address supplied
